A bespoke hand-blown glass stair finial

RENÉE PARIS was commissioned by the interior designer Aude de Foucher to create a bespoke piece designed to enhance a staircase newel post. More than a simple functional element, this creation stands as a true focal point, at the intersection of architecture and fine craftsmanship.

Positioned at the top of the post, this finial takes the form of a glass sphere, mouth-blown by a master glassmaker in Murano. With a generous diameter of 18 cm (7 inches), it was designed to harmonize with the proportions of this monumental staircase. Its deep, vibrant blue hue captures the light, revealing the richness and depth of hand-crafted glass.

The transparency and apparent delicacy of the material contrast with the strength and rigor of the steel structure. This interplay — between lightness and solidity, between craftsmanship and architecture — gives the piece a distinctive elegance.

The integration of the piece required precise technical development. The sphere is mounted on a custom-made brass base, designed to ensure both stability and discretion. Each element was specifically developed to meet the project’s constraints and to guarantee perfect aesthetic coherence. Particular attention was paid to the strength of the assembly, ensuring a durable and fully secure installation, perfectly aligned with the requirements of the space.

Through this project, RENÉE PARIS demonstrates its ability to bring together exceptional craftsmanship and the demands of contemporary design, creating unique pieces that are both functional and sculptural.

Thank you to Aude de Foucher for her trust.
